The Mercers Love NC!

In 2003 I moved to NC from Pittsburgh, PA to attend Elon University. I had just recently become a Christian and I was eager to grow in my faith. Over the next four years I was discipled through the ministry of Campus Outreach. During that time my passion for the gospel, discipleship, evangelism, preaching and the local church continued to grow. As well as a great love for the state and people of NC.

I met my beautiful wife Margy in 2008 and we were married two years later! Living in Greensboro and ministering at UNC-Greensboro made our hearts grow to love college students, NC and the people in it. We were learning that there really was not much of a bible belt any more. We continued to meet people from all over NC who didn’t understand the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We moved to Durham in 2012 and fell in love with another NC city. It was the perfect place to begin our family, which has now grown to four (Addy, 3 & William, 1). We loved the people, the size, the universities, the medical community (Margy is a part-time nurse) and the whole culture. Again we hoped that we could one day plant a church in a city like Durham or Greensboro. One that was similar in size and culture. One that had college campuses and where there was a great need. A place where we could live near the city and be deeply involved in the lives of the lost.

Winston is Growing

So when we heard about Winston-Salem and the need there, we jumped at the opportunity. The Triad is growing and becoming more and more like the Raleigh-Durham area. In fact over 100,000 people are projected to move to Winston in the next 15 years! That means the population of Winston-Salem will increase by almost 50%!

The city of Winston knows that and is preparing for the growth. Is the church? We want the church of Jesus Christ to be ready to receive those 100,000 new residents. Ready to serve them, love them and share the gospel with them. We want to plant a church that will be for Christ, the City and the Campuses all over Winston!

Many people know Winston-Salem as the home of Wake Forest University and although the city may be best known for this “Top 25” university, it is also home to three other college campuses as well: Salem College, Winston Salem State and UNC School of the Arts.  Winston is a a place of creativity and innovation. It was in Winston that both Wachovia and BB&T banks were founded…not to mention Hanes, RJ Reynolds and everyone’s favorite – Krispy Kreme Donuts. The city is expanding and the new Innovation Quarter is bringing tons of new jobs to the city.

Come join us!

We need men and women who are sold out for Jesus Christ. Thinking about graduate school? Why not go to Wake Forest? Are you in the medical field? Consider moving to WS and working at one of its hospitals. Raising a family? Come and plant your family with our church family in the city of Winston! We hope that in the years to come Winston will be know for it gospel witness more than anything else!  To help make that a reality click HERE.
